Waypoint Bio is a venture-backed biotech startup building the next generation of cell therapies for solid tumors. Joining our team as a research intern means working with a group of innovative and collaborative scientists who share the mission of bringing the promise of immune cell therapy to all cancer patients.

Traditional cell therapy development faces a trade-off between in vitro approaches that are fast but inaccurate, and in vivo approaches that are accurate but slow and expensive. Waypoint has built a proprietary spatial biology & machine learning platform that enables pooled cell therapy screens in vivo - profiling hundreds of cell therapy designs in a single mouse to see how each one interacts with the tumor microenvironment, while measuring each design's performance across distinct clinically relevant parameters. This high-throughput approach compresses years of work into a single experiment by achieving >100x the throughput of conventional animal experiments.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly organized and enthusiastic research intern who is motivated to develop scientific knowledge and skills while providing extensive technical support. In this role, you will join our team to contribute to molecular biology R&D at our lab at the Alexandria Center for Life Science in New York (430 E 29th St).

Time commitment and schedule

Education Requirements:

\n
• Recent graduates of BS and/or graduate school programs in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology, Cancer Biology, or a related field.
\n
• Individuals with a BS or MS degree in progress are also encouraged to apply.
\n

Key Duties Include:

\n
• Perform Gibson Assembly cloning to generate new DNA constructs.
\n
• Perform cell culture with a variety of cancer cell lines.
\n
• Genetically modify human cells using lentivirus.
\n
• Isolate RNA and DNA from mammalian cells for downstream molecular biology workflows.
\n
• Analyze data and communicate experimental results.
\n
• Record experiments and results clearly in an electronic lab notebook.
\n
• Contribute to general laboratory operations and organization, such as maintaining equipment, reagents, and supplies.
\n
• Provide conceptual input on experimental design and interpretation in a team setting.
\n

Skills and Experience:

\n
• Strong technical skills in molecular cloning techniques such as PCR, bacterial transformation, DNA isolation and purification, gel electrophoresis, and Gibson Assembly.
\n
• Proficiency in mammalian cell culture and sterile technique.
\n
• Enthusiasm for taking initiative on a range of responsibilities.
\n
• Ability to learn quickly and work in a fast-paced environment.
\n
• Strong communication and organizational skills to work collaboratively.
\n
• Plus: Knowledge of immunology and/or cancer biology.
\n
